Blockhead Bash V
La Canada High School is where teams and 2379 competed for our Blockhead Bash V, our first competition of the year. As a first year team, we had no experience on the robot run, programming the robot, or project. Nevertheless, we went in the competition with what we prepared and felt comfortable with. Walking into the pit area with curiosity and excitement, we set down our schedule and prepared for our first robot run. Our robot run scores turned out better than we expected, with average score of 300 points. But due to the under scores of our run, scores turned out to be: 304,253,336,307,265,254 307,203. Next up on our schedule was robot design where we were being asked questions about our robot, the judge seemed to show interest in our robot and wished to see improvements such as adding sensors on our robot in the future. Then came our project session, the session we are most confident at. Judges showed understanding in our project, but we discovered areas that we needed to be improved on. Last but not least was our Core Values session, which is also considered the most important judging session of the day, where we were judged on our Gracious Professionalism, Teamwork, and Inspiration. We were asked to do an activity where we were given 30 seconds to build a tower as tall as we can to show how our team work together, the tower turned our to be surprisingly tall. At the end of the day, we showed up at the award ceremony, many teams were did great and received great awards. Because we had confidence in our project, we were hoping to get an award During the announcement for project awards, we had our hopes high, but our team name was eventually not being called. Nearly when we gave up all our hope, our team was called up for the Rising Star award, where the judges want to see improvements in our robot, project, and core values. Despite whatever award we won, we left the competition with confidence and the hope that we will do fine for the rest of our season.
